Cost & Value
- How much does a media wall cost in the UK?
- Average professional installations range from £2,000 to £4,000.
- Simple DIY setups can cost a few hundred pounds, while premium designs with stone cladding and smart lighting can exceed £4,000.
- Does it add value to my home?
- Yes, a high-quality, professionally built media wall is increasingly seen as a solid long-term investment that can enhance a property's appeal and resale value.
- Technical & Design Specifications
- What is the ideal TV size?
- The size will of course depend on the room size and size of the media wall. Designers recommend choosing eith a size you are 100% happy with or a wall width that allows for future screen upgrades to avoid costly reconstruction later.
- How deep should the wall be?
- Standard builds: 12–16 inches (30–40 cm) to accommodate most consoles and wiring. Deep systems: 20–24 inches if integrating larger fireplaces or heavy-duty audio equipment.
- Is an electric fireplace safe under a TV?
- Yes. Electric fireplaces produce controlled, front-facing heat and do
not require venting, making them safe for electronics directly above
them. Most people will opt for a media wall fireplace under the TV for that complete built in, flush look and to add heating to the room.
When integrating a fireplace into a media wall in 2026, the primary considerations are heat management, visual proportion, and advanced smart integration.
1. Critical Safety & Installation
- Heater Direction:
For recessed installations, ensure the fire has a front-facing heater. If heat vents from the top, it can damage the TV or cause internal overheating. All our media wall fires are front facing.
- Clearance & Recessing:
TVs should ideally be recessed deeper than the wall surface or separated by a non-combustible mantel/shelf to deflect rising heat.
- Gas vs. Electric:
Most 2026 media walls use electric fires because they require no venting and are safe to place directly under electronics. Gas fires require specialized balanced flues and annual professional servicing. All our Fires are electric.
2. 2026 Design Trends
- Fireplace-First Layout:
Designers are increasingly using the fireplace as the primary architectural anchor rather than the TV, creating a more balanced focal point.
- Multi-Sided Viewing: Panoramic fires with 3-sided glass (front and both sides) are highly popular for adding visual depth and luxury. All ours are 3 sided.
- Aesthetic Realism:
Look for high-end flame technology like "TruFlame" movement or "LCD Screen" , which use multi-layered Screens to mimic real wood-burning glows.
- Natural Materials:
2026 shifts toward "Warm Modernism," integrating natural wood beams, stone slabs, or textured plaster surrounds to soften clean lines on the media wall.
3. Smart Features & Efficiency
- Integrated Controls:
Modern units like offer app-based control, Alexa/Google Home compatibility, and 7-day programmable timers.
- Flame-Only Mode:
Ensure the fire can operate without heat, allowing you to enjoy the visual ambiance during warmer months without wasting energy.
- Ecodesign Compliance:
High-efficiency units are often efficient and minimize electricity consumption for both heat and LED lighting.
Media Wall Fires FAQ
Here are the most asked questions when it comes to media wall fires - if you have a question that`s not listed please message us via the Live Help
Installation & Proportions
What size fire should I choose for my TV?
A common "rule of thumb" for visual balance is to choose a fire that is roughly two-thirds the width of your TV or the media wall itself. For a 65-inch TV, a 1500mm (approx. 60-inch) fire is a popular choice.
Can the fire be wider than the TV?
Yes, this is often preferred for a premium, stable architectural look.
How far should the TV be from the fire?
Most manufacturers recommend a minimum clearance of 20cm (8 inches), though some high-heat models require up to 40cm (16 inches).
Heating & Safety
Do media wall fires provide actual heat?
Yes, most electric models provide between 1kW and 2kW of heat, enough for supplemental warmth in a standard UK lounge.
Are they safe for TVs?
Most modern electric fires are designed with front-facing heaters that blow heat into the room rather than upward, protecting electronics mounted directly above.
Can I use the flame effect without heat?
Yes, nearly all 2026 models feature a "flame-only" mode for year-round ambiance without increasing room temperature.
Design & Technology
What are 3-sided fires?
These are panoramic units with glass on the front and both sides, providing a wraparound 3D view of the flames from multiple angles in the room.
What smart features are available?
High-end 2026 fires often include smart app integration, voice control via Alexa or Google Home, and 7-day programmable timers.
What fuel beds are most realistic?
While crystals and pebbles are available, the 2026 trend is toward hand-crafted ceramic or real wood logs paired with 5D or holographic flame projection for maximum realism. A great deal of customers also use real logs once they have purchased their fire.
Maintenance & Costs
How much maintenance is required?
Electric fires are very low-maintenance, requiring only periodic dusting of the glass and air vents to ensure proper airflow.
How much do they cost to run?
On average, at a 2kW setting, an electric fire costs approximately 36–42p per hour. Flame-only mode uses significantly less energy, typically just a few pence per hour.
Do I need a chimney?
No. Electric fires do not require any venting or chimneys, making them suitable for any room with a standard power socket.
